Account setup

Follow these steps to get a Verified Account so that you can continue shipping to the U.S. with Australia Post.

The same account also lets you ship DDP to Canada, the UK, and select EU countries—see What you can do with your Verified Account for the current destination list. Setup is the same either way, so there is nothing extra to do for those destinations.

  1. Create an account using the Australia Post referral link.

    • It's important to use the link from your post so that your account is linked to them.
    • Do not use this link if you are not shipping with Australia Post.
  2. You can sign up using one of these options:

    • Google – Sign up with your Google account.
    • Microsoft – Use your Microsoft account to get started.
    • Manual sign up – Enter your details (name, email, password).
  3. Accept the Terms of Service.

  4. Click Continue.

To keep your account secure, we’ll send a verification code to your email inbox.

  • Enter the code in the verification field.
  • Didn’t get it? Click Resend to request another code.

If you entered a phone number, you’ll also be asked to verify it after your email:

  • Enter the code sent to your phone.
  • Didn’t get it? Click Resend.
  1. Provide the following details:

    • Business name – Your company name.
    • Website URL – Your store or company website.
    • Country – Where your business is based.
  2. Click Continue with Dashboard Lite when finished.

Reminder: Access to the Zonos Dashboard is free—no subscription fees. You’ll only be charged for the duties on your shipments, the taxes on your non-U.S. shipments, and applicable fees. On U.S. shipments, Zonos remits the duties to CBP on your behalf. On non-U.S. shipments, we remit to the respective parties.

New regulations require duties to be paid upfront for postal shipments to the U.S. valued under $2,500 USD. Australia Post has partnered with Zonos, a Qualified Party approved by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), to collect and remit those duties.

What each destination requires is different. Your other destinations:

  • The United Kingdom – Tax on shipments valued under 135 GBP has to be remitted under a tax ID rather than collected from your customer on delivery. That is what your Verified Account does for those shipments.
  • Canada – There is no such requirement. Shipping DDP is your choice; it simply means your customer is not asked to pay anything on delivery.
  • Select EU countries – Germany, Sweden, and Denmark are available through your Verified Account. Requirements vary by country, and some require duties and taxes to be settled before the parcel ships.

One billing method covers all of these destinations.

To print Australia Post shipping labels, your account must be verified with an approved billing method.

After completing your business information, you’ll be prompted to enter billing information.
If you need to return later, go to Zonos DashboardSettingsBilling.

To activate your Verified Account:

  1. From the Dashboard homepage, select Add billing details.
  2. Enter your credit card details under Add a payment method.
  3. Add your name, email, phone, and address under Billing details.
  4. Click Save.

Keep a valid payment method on file. If duty collection fails due to an invalid card, you won’t be able to create Australia Post labels.

During setup, you'll add your primary shipping identifier. You can add additional identifiers later in DashboardSettings.

To add your primary shipping identifier:

  1. On the Zonos Dashboard homepage, scroll to Enter your Australia Post shipper identifier.
  2. Select your Australia Post shipper identifier type:
    • Parcel Send / eParcel – MLID
    • MyPost – APCN
    • MyPost Business – APBCN
  3. Enter your identifier number:
    • MLID: 3–5 uppercase alphanumeric characters
    • APCN: 10 digits only
    • APBCN: 8 digits only
  4. Click Save.

Important: Wait at least 1 hour before creating a label to allow Australia Post systems to update.

For merchants using a 3PL
  • If your 3PL allows bring your own Australia Post account (BYOA), set up a Verified Account with Zonos using your AusPost details.
  • If your 3PL uses their own Australia Post account, they must add your shipper identifier (MLID, APCN, or APBCN) in SettingsAustralia Post shipper identifier.

3PLs should not ask merchants to create a Verified Account using the 3PL’s MLID, APCN, or APBCN.
